About me

I am a serious amateur photographer who has been reading and shooting and learning for the past 5 years.

It all started for me with a Nikon D70 which I purchased because I was tired of toting my kids to the local photo studio for portraits every 6 months.  Like many photographers who learned using digital, most of my education came from shooting hundreds and thousands of photos until things looked good.  Once I realized I actually could take a good photograph, I decided to get serious and started to read books, blogs, websites, etc.  I was also lucky enough to befriend a local photographer who allowed me to co-shoot some weddings.

The more I shot, the more I saw area for improvement, and so the more I struggled to learn how to improve.  The more I shot, the more I realized I had only scratched the surface of the millions of different types of pictures one can take.  The more I shot, the more I learned about light and color and pattern and texture and a whole host of other things I had never even thought about before.

This blog is mostly about my photographic experiences - pictures I have taken, things I have learned that I think might help others.  Thanks for taking time out to spend some time with me!
